Welcome to the 1st World Symposium on Sustainable Transport and Livability (WSSTL-2025), an exciting and transformative event bringing together sustainability enthusiasts from across the globe. Jointly organized by the Special Interest Group (SIG-F4) of the World Conference on Transport Research Society (WCTRS) and the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, this symposium promises to be an interdisciplinary gathering of experts, policymakers, urban planners, researchers, and industry leaders dedicated to advancing sustainable transport and enhancing the quality of life. Sustainable Transport and Livability (TSTL), Taylor & Francis, our esteemed partner journal, will support this symposium series, ensuring that the knowledge shared during these three days finds a lasting impact on the global stage. We invite participants from all groups of people, both from developed as well as developing economies alike, who are passionate about shaping a more sustainable and livable world. From experts and researchers to policymakers, from industry leaders to community leaders, this event offers a unique platform for collaboration and dialogue.

Transport systems are fundamental to modern society, enabling mobility and access to opportunities, yet they also pose significant challenges, including environmental degradation, social inequity, and health impacts. The technical background of our first WSSTL-2025 is rooted in addressing these challenges by exploring innovative solutions and strategies that promote sustainable transport and livability. The symposium will delve into cutting-edge research, technologies, and practices that can transform transport systems into engines of well-being and resilience.

The symposium will focus on several key themes that address the multifaceted relationship between transport systems and quality of life.

  1. Transport and Well-being: Exploring how transport systems can enhance the overall well-being of individuals and communities.
  2. Transport, Health, and Happiness: Investigating the connections between transport, health outcomes, and individual happiness.
  3. Transport and Livability/Quality of Life (QoL): Analyzing the impact of transport systems on the livability and quality of life in urban and rural areas.
  4. Transport, Equity, and Accessibility: Addressing issues of social equity and accessibility in transport systems to ensure inclusive mobility.
  5. Transport and Environmental Quality and Disaster Resiliency: Examining the role of transport systems in environmental sustainability and disaster resilience.
  6. Other Aspects of Transport Related to Livability and Quality of Life: Covering additional topics that link transport systems to broader aspects of livability and quality of life. For example, how technology contributes to these aspects, etc.

More detailed explanation of the themes can be found here

By focusing on these themes, the first WSSTL-2025 aims to drive innovation and collaboration in sustainable transport and livability, ultimately contributing to a more equitable, healthy, and resilient society.
